As part of the third edition of Legality Days – Open Spaces in Enclosed Places, Turin Candidate City for European Capital of Culture 2033 collaborated in organising “The Personal is Political”, a programme of discussions and book presentations, promoted in partnership with the Turin Book Fair, which took place at the Portici della Legalità.
Guiding these events was the idea that no story is merely the story of one individual: behind every personal history, development or drama lies the narrative, development or drama of a whole society, as every person’s story is of concern to us all.

The programme of “Portici di Carta” included the following events:
– A public speaking marathon on the condition of prison detainees;
– “Letters from prison: from Antonio Gramsci to Gianni Alemanno”, organised by the Avvalorando Association, the Vittorio Chiusano Criminal Defence Bar Association of Western Piedmont and Aosta Valley and AICS;
– 18 + 1. Eighteen years and one day, in collaboration with the City of Turin’s Office for the Rights of Individuals Deprived of Liberty, with Monica Cristina Gallo, introduced by Diletta Berardinelli;
– “Does Money Bring Happiness?”, in collaboration with Banca Etica, with Ugo Biggeri and Nadia Lambiase;
– “Does Security Mean Repression?”, in collaboration with the Festival dell’Accoglienza (Festival of Welcome), with Alessandra Algostino and Laura Martinelli;
– “Love in a Cage” and “The Passionate Ones”, with Donatella Di Stasio, Simonetta Fiori and Valeria Marcenò;
– “Finally, Women Magistrates” and “My Silence is a Star”, with Eliana Di Caro, Giulia Locati and Sabrina Pisu;
– “My Daughter: The Life of Franca Jarach, Desaparecida”, with Carlo Greppi, Tommaso Greco and Lucilla G. Moliterno.

As part of “Legality Days”, Turin Candidate City for European Capital of Culture 2033 participated in the conference “Women and Art: A Journey Through History into the Contemporary”, organised by the Coordinamento Istituti Culturali Piemonte (Piedmont Cultural Institutes Coordination Group) and 1563 Foundation, which took place at the prestigious Palazzo Madama. This was followed by a free guided tour of the royal residence.
