Governance

With the signing of the protocol agreement between the City of Turin, Piedmont Regional Council, the Metropolitan City of Turin, Turin Chamber of Commerce, Turin University, Turin Polytechnic, the CRT Foundation and the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation, the Inter-institutional Strategic Committee for Turin’s application to become European Capital of Culture 2033 has been officially established.
Chaired by the Mayor of Turin, the Committee’s main task will be to develop a candidacy capable of promoting the city’s cultural heritage, strengthening community participation – with particular focus on younger generations – and raising Turin’s visibility on a national and European level. The aim is to promote culture as a driver for intercultural dialogue by building a participative and inclusive project.
The Fondazione per la Cultura Torino (Turin Foundation for Culture), an agency focusing on the promotion, production and valorisation of cultural activities, has been designated as the key body that will be responsible for managing preparations for the drafting of the Application Dossier.

A collective challenge for the city’s future

As Mayor Stefano Lo Russo has underlined, this candidacy is a choral project that will involve us all: “An investment in the city’s future where culture becomes a catalyst for development, innovation and social cohesion.” Everyone involved shares the same vision: to transform Turin into a European cultural hub combining the values of identity, creativity, experimentation and democracy.
With its candidacy, Turin takes up an ambitious challenge but one that is well within its grasp, drawing upon the city’s outstanding cultural history, its vibrant civic fabric plus an invaluable ability to transform culture into a catalyst for opportunities.
