European Capital of Culture
Every year, for over forty years, the title of European Capital of Culture has marked the celebration of the extraordinary diversity and richness of European cultural heritage.
It is a mark of recognition that transforms cities, both large and small, into ecosystems where music, theatre, literature, history and creativity interact to foster cohesion at both European and international level.
Being a European Capital of Culture means opening your city to the world: welcoming artists and visitors to a whole year of events, experiences and partnerships that will leave a lasting legacy, a legacy at once cultural, human, social and economic. Whether a major metropolis or a little-known town, every European Capital of Culture has helped build bridges between people and ideas.
With its own candidacy, Turin is ready to embark on this extraordinary adventure together with a city in the Netherlands – our “twin” country for 2033 – in a double movement that brings together two European cities that are quite different yet united by a common spirit of innovation and openness.
Through its candidacy, Turin aims to strengthen the sense of belonging to a common European identity, promoting creativity as a driving force for urban renewal and social experimentation, supporting cooperation between artists, institutions and communities at a European level, and offering itself to visitors as a vibrant hub for European culture.
