The City and Its Conflicts

On March 27th, at 8.30 pm at the Polo del ’900, a discussion took place entitled “The City and its Conflicts”. Organised in collaboration with Urban Lab Torino, the event featured Claudio Calvaresi, Vitandrea Marzano, Daniela Patti and Agostino Riitano, who together reflected on the relationship between conflict and urban space. Drawing on three Italian case studies, the discussion centred on the role of public spaces in triggering conflicts and the opportunities offered by progressive urban policies to help promote inclusion, recognition and democracy.

Ten Years of Mass Protests, and Then Chaos

On March 30th, at 6 pm in the Aula Magna of the Cavallerizza Reale, American journalist and writer Vincent Bevins gave a lecture entitled “Ten Years of Mass Protests, and Then Chaos”, introduced by Filippo Barbera. Bevins analysed the decade from 2010 to 2020, a period which saw a record number of popular uprisings around the world. His talk focused on the outcomes – often ambiguous or disappointing – of these movements, examining the political significance of such experiences in light of the growing resurgence of authoritarian tendencies both in Europe and in the United States.
